Dear Constituents of the 56th District:

My name is Carl Rollins and I am seeking your support for re-election as your state representative.  I have served you for four years and would appreciate your support for an additional two year term.  The 56th district includes all of Woodford County, the northeastern third of Franklin County and the southwestern portion of Fayette County.

In my four years in the Kentucky House of Representatives I have been fortunate to serve in several leadership capacities.  I first served for a year as Chair of the Central Kentucky Caucus and resigned that post when I was appointed Chair of the Education Committee.

As Chair of the Education Committee I have had the opportunity to lead efforts to improve educational opportunities for all of our citizens in K-12 through postsecondary education.  We have made significant progress in the past two years passing legislation to revamp K-12 education and align core academic requirements from kindergarten through college, a change that should reduce the amount of remediation our students need when they enter college.  We have made the transition from community college to a four-year university easier by improving the way course credits transfer. House Bill 176 in the most recent session of the General Assembly addresses four options for school districts to follow to improve our lowest performing schools.

I also serve as Vice Chair of the House State Government Committee and in that position I have helped protect retirement benefits for state government employees.  I have fought against furloughs of state employees and will continue to work for adequate pay raises and benefits for those who serve our citizens.

The 56th district is home to world famous horse farms as well as Keeneland Race Course.  Because of the importance of the horse industry to Kentucky, I have worked diligently to pass legislation that will benefit the more than 100,000 Kentuckians who work on our farms and in other capacities related to the horse industry.

My 18 years of experience in local government have prepared me well for my service in the legislature.  I will continue to work with our local government leaders to make improvements in the service provided for the 56th district.

By working together, we can truly make a difference for all our citizens.  I have seen the things we can accomplish by working with community leaders and civic groups and pledge to continue to work in a bipartisan manner to accomplish great things for our district and our commonwealth.

Please continue to contact me with your ideas and suggestions.  I enjoy hearing from each of you and value your letters, emails and phone calls.  I ask for your vote and your support in November.

Sincerely,

Carl Rollins
